Black Jack may seem like a purely American game, but it really comes from “La Veintiuna” a Spanish game meaning “twenty-one”.
It is first referenced in the picaresque works of Miguel de Cervantes´ Rinconete and Cortadillo. Around 1600, the text describes the game’s aim: to get twenty-one points without going over. With which we can deduce that it was played in Castilla in the early 17th century.
